A top prize winner at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition, pianist Steven Lin is earning acclaim as one of the most distinctive and original artists of his generation. He made his debut with the New York Philharmonic at just 13 years old, and recently gave a sensational performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 at Carnegie Hall. The New York Times praised his playing as “immaculately voiced and enhanced by admirable subtleties of shading and dynamics.”
Lin has appeared as soloist with the Kansas City Symphony under Michael Stern, Fort Worth Symphony with Miguel Harth-Bedoya, National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico with Carlos Miguel Prieto, Western Australian Symphony and Israel Philharmonic with Asher Fisch, Baltimore Symphony with Keith Lockhart, and most recently the San Diego Symphony in 2023. Other orchestral collaborations include performances with the Indianapolis Symphony, Costa Rica National Symphony, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan.
He has performed recitals across Europe, Asia, and North America, at venues including the Louvre, the Gasteig in Munich, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Hamarikyu Hall in Tokyo, Shanghai Concert Hall, and the National Concert Halls of Dublin and Taipei. In the 2021–2022 season, he toured the Basque region of Spain and appeared at the Berlin Philharmonie with Curtis on Tour and the Karajan Academy. He is a frequent performer at the Wallis Annenberg Center, Washington Performing Arts, Smithsonian American Art Museum, and for the National Chopin Foundation.
Upcoming highlights include a 2025 recital in Taipei presented in collaboration with Giorgio Armani, and a fall U.S. recital tour with performances in Philadelphia, San Diego, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Festival appearances include Bravo! Vail, Aspen, La Jolla SummerFest, New Hampshire Music Festival, WQXR’s Beethoven Marathon, DITTO Festival (Korea), and the Finca World Piano Festival (Canary Islands). He studied chamber music at the Aspen Music Festival under David Finckel and Wu Han, and has collaborated with Gidon Kremer and Misha Maisky.
Born in the U.S. to Taiwanese parents, Lin was accepted to The Juilliard School at age ten on a full scholarship to study with Yoheved Kaplinsky. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Juilliard, where he later studied with Robert McDonald and Matti Raekallio, and earned an Artist Diploma from the Curtis Institute of Music under McDonald’s guidance. He has been featured on NPR’s From the Top, WQXR’s Young Artists Showcase, and in the PBS documentary Virtuosity, chronicling the Van Cliburn Competition. Since 2024, he has served as Artist in Residence with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra.
